Alcohol the cause of one of Colorado's recent car accidents

Patricia M. Jarzobski

Car accidents due to adverse weather conditions or mechanical failures are disconcerting enough. However, when car accidents are due to preventable circumstances, such as drug or alcohol use, the aftermaths are even more devastating. One such accident recently occurred on a portion of Interstate 25 in Colorado.

A 23-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man, both in sedans, were headed in the same direction on the interstate. The cars were in different lanes but driving next to each other when the woman's car suddenly moved into the adjoining lane and hit the man's car. Both cars spun to the other side of the interstate, where the man's car crashed through the guardrail and landed on its side before finally coming to a stop.

The male driver was airlifted to a medical facility for treatment of his extremely serious injuries. He had a passenger with him who was taken to a different hospital for treatment. There was no update on the condition of either man. State troopers charged the female driver, who was not injured, with several citations, including DUI. She was being held in the county jail at the time of the report.

Car accidents due to negligence can lead to personal injury lawsuits. A person who is proved to have been negligently responsible for an accident can be sued if the others involved are injured. When those injured suffer, whether financially, physically, emotionally or mentally, they have the right to pursue compensation for related damages. With the help of experienced legal professionals, Colorado residents may be able to successfully present their claims and obtain compensation for their injuries.
