Just as in any state, car accidents happen quite frequently on the roads of Colorado. Some car accidents are just fender-benders, but others are tragically fatal. Such was the case after a recent late-evening crash between two vehicles.
The wreck occurred when the driver of a sedan ran a stop sign and an approaching pickup truck hit the side of the sedan. Both vehicles slid in the same direction, but the truck rolled over, and the truck’s 39-year-old driver and 15-year-old passenger were thrown out of the cab. Responding emergency personnel declared the driver dead at the scene, and the passenger was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for mild injuries. Apparently, neither had been wearing seatbelts when the crash occurred.
The sedan was occupied by an older couple, and although each was wearing a seatbelt, they both were injured in the crash and were taken to the same hospital as the teen. Authorities are still investigating the crash and no citations have been issued. Drugs or alcohol were not believed to be the reason the sedan’s driver ran the stop sign.
In the Colorado county where this wreck occurred, there have been 38 fatalities from car accidents just this year alone. The family of the occupants of the pickup truck may choose to file a wrongful death or personal injury lawsuit to recoup financial losses. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, this suit may be aimed at the county or toward the driver of the sedan. In either case, the family members will most certainly need legal guidance as they make decisions that will affect the futures of several individuals.
