Car accidents: Passenger critical after car rolls down embankment

On Behalf of | Jun 17, 2015 | Car Accidents

A Colorado woman suffered critical injuries when she was a passenger in a car that rolled on Molas Pass. Troopers apparently suspect that the accident was caused when the driver was distracted. Sadly, car accidents that result from driver distractions are not uncommon.

The Colorado State Patrol reported that the accident occurred in the late afternoon of a recent Monday. The 23-year-old driver of the vehicle was traveling north when he veered off the roadway. The car continued for a couple of hundred feet along the shoulder before rolling three times down an embankment. The vehicle came to halt about 100 feet further.

The critically injured 25-year-old passenger was airlifted to a medical center, and from there she was reportedly transferred to another facility. It was reported that she suffered severe head injuries. The driver suffered no injuries and received a citation for careless driving resulting in injuries. Accident reports indicate that there no evidence exists of alcohol or drug involvement in the crash.

Those who have suffered severe injuries in Colorado car accidents that were caused by the apparent negligence of someone else may pursue claims for compensation for medical expenses and other financial losses. This is true even if the allegedly negligent driver was operating the vehicle occupied by the injured party. Severe head trauma, as suffered by the victim of this accident, can have life-altering consequences and may require long-term medical care. By filing a personal injury claim in a civil court — substantiated by sufficient evidence of negligence — an accident victim may be awarded a monetary judgment to cover losses and expenses related to the accident.
