Improving highway safety is a constant effort for states, and a variety of programs and strategies are employed for this purpose. Here in Colorado, the most recent effort to improve highway safety is the “Moving Towards Zero Deaths” campaign recently initiated by Governor John Hickenlooper.

Distracted driving is an important issue in Colorado and many other states. With the widespread use of smart phones and other electronic devices, the temptations to distraction are myriad. As readers may know, Colorado and most other states have passed some sort of ban on the use of cell phones while driving.  

Report: failure to wear seatbelt contributing to more traffic fatalities

The rate of fatal auto accidents is obviously an important barometer of the status of highway safety in any state. Here in Colorado, there had happily been a decline in fatal motor vehicle accidents from 2007 to 2012. That downward trend, however, has changed.
