Work with experienced counsel in seeking damages for TBI

Patricia M. Jarzobski

Denver readers may have heard about a fatal accident that occurred earlier this month in the Bonnie Brae neighborhood involving a mother and her two children. The crash reportedly occurred when a car turned into the family as they were in the middle of a crosswalk.

While the mother and her daughter were not seriously injured in the accident, one of the children, 3-year-old Austin Strasser, suffered a head injury from the accident which eventually led to his death. Accidents like these are tragic, and unfortunately too common.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, motor vehicle accidents and traffic accidents were among the leading causes of traumatic brain injuries between 2006 and 2010. Other sources say that over half of all reported traumatic brain injuries are caused by automobile accidents.

Obviously, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injuries that don’t result in death can result in significant, permanent changes in the life of the victim. These changes often come at significant financial costs to victims and their families, including medical costs and lost earnings, not to mention the emotional and social costs.

Because the costs of brain injury can be so great, victims and their families need to understand their right to seek damages and the importance of working with an experienced attorney to maximize the chances of recovery. Every case is different, and it is impossible to guarantee any particular outcome, but working with an experienced attorney helps ensure the victim’s rights and interests will be protected and zealously advocated throughout the process.
