Drivers must always be clearly focused and alert while they are driving. Being under the influence of alcohol can cause drivers to have impaired judgment and limit the ability to make split-second decisions. This may also cause Colorado drivers to disregard traffic laws due to their lack of inhibitions from the alcohol. All of these poor decisions can be catalysts for causing a car accident.
According to Colorado authorities, a man driving a truck was traveling east during the early evening without having his headlights turned on. In addition to having his headlights off, he was also headed in the wrong direction on the highway. As a result, the man hit another vehicle in a head-on collision.
The driver in the vehicle that was struck died in the crash. The vehicle’s passenger survived the crash, but was taken to a medical facility for treatment. Two dogs that did not survive the accident were also inside the vehicle. The driver of the truck was also injured in the crash and taken to the hospital.
Colorado authorities suspect that alcohol was a factor in the car accident, and charges against the driver are still pending. Although nothing can bring their loved one back, the deceased driver’s grieving family may find a sense of justice by filing a wrongful death claim against the driver in pursuit of compensation for expenses associated with this tragedy. Separately, the injured passenger may choose to file a personal injury claim against the person deemed negligent to receive compensation for the injuries that were suffered during the crash, as well as any other associated financial losses.
