Even when pedestrians are careful when walking on or near roadways, the possibility still exists that they could become victims of irresponsible drivers. When pedestrians choose to walk during non-daylight hours, they increase their chances of becoming victims. In a recent Colorado accident that occurred during the early morning hours, a male pedestrian was the victim of a fatal car accident.
In late November, a hit-and-run pedestrian accident occurred near Colorado Springs on a highway south of the city. According to state troopers’ initial findings, they believe that a man was walking in the right-hand lane on the northbound section of the highway. It is believed that a vehicle, traveling in the same direction, struck the man.
After being hit by the vehicle, the man succumbed to his injuries while still at the scene of the accident. The driver, who left the scene, had yet to be located at the time of the latest report. Law enforcement personnel are still trying to gather information from any possible witnesses who may have seen what transpired.
The fatal car accident that took the life of the pedestrian leaves the man’s surviving family members’ lives forever changed. Once Colorado authorities identify the person who was driving the vehicle, the family may find a sense of justice by pursuing a wrongful death claim against the person deemed responsible. If the evidence shows that the accident resulted from the driver’s negligent behavior, the court may award the family compensation for their losses stemming from the accident.
