The law enacts posted speed limits to protect everyone on and around the road. Going drastically over the speed limit can significantly increase the chances of a car accident. One reason why Colorado drivers may be traveling so quickly is due to being engaged in illegal street racing. The dangers of being involved in street racing were recently demonstrated after seven people were sent to the hospital following a crash.
According to local authorities, a Volvo and a motorcycle were street racing while headed north. The Volvo’s driver lost control of the vehicle, which caused it to spin and cross over into the southbound lane. A Nissan traveling in the southbound lane was hit head-on by the Volvo. A total of seven people were transported to the hospital — two occupants from the Volvo and four from the Nissan.
The operator of the motorcycle did not stop after the accident and purportedly abandoned the scene. Witnesses were not able to note any details about the motorcycle because of how quickly it was moving. Police are still trying to locate the motorcyclist.
The likely first step for all of the victims is to work on their recovery. After recovering from their injuries, the victims of this car accident have the right to file a personal injury claim. If liability is established, the Colorado victims may be awarded financial redress. This compensation can help the victims to cope with the pain and suffering they are facing as well as alleviate the burden of their medical bills.
