When a teenager first gets his or her license, it can be such an exciting time and accompanied by a sense of freedom. Unfortunately, some Colorado teens take this privilege for granted and do not abide by the driving laws, resulting in unnecessary car accidents. A simple mistake could lead to an innocent victim being severely injured or even killed during a car accident.
A group of teens suffered serious consequences when the car they were riding in crashed. Allegedly, the driver was traveling 40 mph over the speed limit and ignored a stop sign. The vehicle reportedly hit a bump, went into the air and then spun out of control. The car ultimately stopped after it smashed into a fence and a tree.
The two boys who were sitting in the back seat of the car both died in the crash. One of the teens had a seat belt on, but the other did not and was thrown out of the car. The third passenger was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
It has not yet been determined whether the driver will be charged as a juvenile or an adult. A member of the Colorado State Patrol commented that initial evidence suggests that all four of the teens had alcohol in their systems at the time of the crash. The deceased and injured teens’ parents may elect to file a claim against the driver and any other person who had ownership of the vehicle involved in the car accident. Nothing can be done to change the unfortunate circumstances of the deceased, but the families may be able to derive some sense of justice by holding the party or parties deemed responsible financially accountable under our laws.
