Getting to travel is a luxury that many people enjoy for business and pleasure, but no one likes to think that a tragedy may occur. A small aircraft recently crashed during the early morning hours, causing a number of deaths. According to Colorado law enforcement, the fatal plane accident occurred several hundred yards from the runway. One of the witnesses noted that she had seen the plane flying extremely low, and when she heard the plane making a sputtering sound, she felt that the plane was going to crash.
Three people on the small plane died in the crash. Two other people suffered serious injuries and were taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. They eventually succumbed to their injuries. Reports also disclosed that a dog traveling on board the plane died as well.
A police commander said that he was unable to tell whether the plane was taking off or if it was trying to land. Photos of the tragedy showed the plane lying in the grass adjacent to several private residences, completely destroyed. The airport where this occurred, Erie Municipal Airport, has been the scene of three other crashes, but none of those had any fatalities involved.
Although a fatal plane accident is not common, it is still tragic when it happens. The grieving families of the deceased may have the right to file a wrongful death suit against the pilot and/or any other party deemed responsible for the accident. Once the evidence has been examined, the civil justice system may be called upon to decide if negligence was the proximate cause of this Colorado crash, and if so, whether damages should be awarded to the surviving families of the deceased passengers.
