A fatal car accident leads to 12 charges against Colorado driver

On Behalf of | Jun 27, 2014 | Wrongful Death

Drivers in many parts of Colorado face a variety of hazards when they enter Colorado roadways. Occasionally, those hazards can be the result of a motorist’s inability to successfully navigate the roads, which can lead to injuries to themselves and their passengers. A recent report indicates that a driver may have been responsible for causing a fatal car accident that claimed one man’s life.

According to the report, the driver was involved in two accidents, the final one resulting in the death of one of his passengers and the moderate injuries of another. The driver’s first incident supposedly resulted in him crashing into a barbed wire fence near an intersection. Officials believe that he continued on his way without notifying them of the accident, picking up two passengers before a final crash. That collision reportedly occurred after the driver failed to maneuver through a curve in the road, causing the truck to flip over almost two times before stopping on its hood.

The deceased passenger died shortly after the crash, according to the autopsy report. The driver recently appeared in court and was appointed a public defender because he faces 12 charges which include felony vehicular homicide-reckless driving and failure to report an accident. A Colorado State Patrol trooper declined to provide any further details about the case because the investigation has not been concluded.

A fatal car accident in Colorado can leave family members grieving. In this case, the driver faces many charges that, if convicted, can be used as evidence in a wrongful death claim filed by the decedent’s family. The surviving passenger could also use the driver’s conviction as evidence as well, should he decide to file a personal injury claim for the injuries he sustained in the accident.
