All drivers have a duty to protect their passengers as well as those around them each time they get behind the wheel. As part of that protection, a driver should be maintaining a clear head and having the ability to stay focused on the road. Driving under the influence in Colorado is a serious matter, and the associated penalties should not be taken lightly. A car accident that has been caused by an inebriated driver can lead to serious injuries or even death.
During a recent evening, a truck and a car collided. According to witnesses at the scene, the truck unexpectedly headed directly into the path of a car and crashed into it. Reportedly, a person who was seen fleeing the scene was believed to have been one of the drivers.
Local authorities reported that there were three people who were harmed in the accident. One of the injured victims was reported to be in critical condition. A short time after the accident, local police were able to catch up to the person who had allegedly abandoned the accident. An arrest was made.
Investigators believe that alcohol may have been a causal factor in the car accident. The injured Colorado victims may choose to file a personal injury claim against the party believed to have been responsible. Those who had been harmed in the accident may seek a monetary judgment to assist with paying the incurred medical bills as well as restitution for pain and suffering. First, they will need to establish by appropriate evidence that the accident was caused by the negligence of another party.
