It may seem like common sense for a driver to stay alert and be fully present while behind the wheel, but anyone can become easily distracted. Colorado motorists who can’t completely focus because they have been drinking or are driving too quickly can cause a car accident within seconds. Other people surrounding a distracted motorist may suffer injuries or possibly even lose their life due to the negligent driver.
On a recent Friday evening, a driver, his girlfriend, and two children were traveling when they smashed into two other vehicles. Reportedly, the driver had gotten into an altercation with his girlfriend at the time of the accident. According to investigators, the driver was also speeding when he T-boned the vehicles.
Inside one of the vehicles was a teenage boy who died at the scene. It was not indicated whether anyone in the second vehicle was harmed in the accident. The driver’s girlfriend and two children were injured, but police claim that the man abandoned the scene and fled on foot, leaving them behind. Police were able to locate the man and bring him into custody.
The Colorado driver was arrested on several charges, including driving under the influence and being involved in an accident resulting in death. No amount of money will ever bring back a loved one who is killed in a car accident, but the surviving family members may hope to find a sense of justice by filing a claim against the responsible party. A successfully presented claim may award the family financial restitution to assist with medical bills and end-of-life expenses.
