Colorado police say a driver fled a fatal car accident

When a Colorado car accident causes harm to another person, any driver involved in the wreck is required to stop. They are required to reasonably assist those injured, including calling for emergency assistance when necessary. Moreover, the drivers involved must await the authorities. A driver who leaves the scene of the accident before law enforcement arrives may be subject to worse ramifications than if he or she had remained at the car accident scene.

During a recent evening on I-25, police reported a three vehicle collision. A man was reportedly heading south on his moped when a car smashed into the back of the moped. From the impact, the man was thrown from his bike and onto the road. Another driver traveling in oncoming traffic headed into the median divider, causing her vehicle to flip over in an attempt to avoid the accident.

The driver who tried to maneuver away from the accident was killed. According to state troopers, her two passengers were taken to a nearby medical facility to be treated for serious injuries. The moped operator was also killed and reportedly not wearing his helmet at the time of the accident.

Colorado state troopers are currently in search of the driver who they say drove over the moped driver and abandoned the scene. Once the driver deemed responsible has been located, criminal charges will likely be pursued. Moreover, the family members of the deceased victims may choose to pursue wrongful death claims, and the passengers who were seriously injured have the right to commence personal injury claims. Fortunately, the authorities are often successful in tracking down drivers that leave the scene of a crash, and if that individual is ultimately convicted in criminal court, proof of that may advance any civil claims for monetary damages arising from the tragic car accident.
