Car accident ends in death of a passenger and an injured driver

On Behalf of | Mar 11, 2014 | Car Accidents

Any time that a driver gets behind the wheel, he or she should be vigilant to the surroundings and other drivers. This includes not being distracted by other people inside the car and objects such as cellphones while a person is driving. The moment that a Colorado driver stops paying attention can be the moment that another person may be seriously injured or possibly killed in a car accident.

A young man was driving in the late afternoon on March 3 when his vehicle drifted into the northbound traffic lanes. According to a report by investigators, as he drove across, another vehicle on the highway was coming in the opposite direction. The second driver tried to get out of the way to avoid the oncoming car, but despite her efforts, the two vehicles crashed into each other head-on.

The male driver was transported by air to a local medical facility for his injuries. The second driver was also taken to the hospital for her injuries by ambulance. A female passenger from the second vehicle passed away at the scene of the accident.

According to a Colorado law enforcement officer, alcohol and drugs were not causal factors in the car accident. The man was charged with reckless driving that ended in injury and suspicion of reckless driving that resulted in death. Although monetary compensation can never bring back a loved one, the surviving family members of the deceased passenger can file a claim against the driver to seek financial redress. A successfully presented claim may give them a sense of justice as well as assist them with end-of-life expenses. The injured female driver can also file a personal injury claim against the driver to seek recovery of financial losses for her medical bills and other damages recognized by our personal injury laws.
