Colorado motor vehicle accident claims the life of 2 people

On Behalf of | Nov 21, 2013 | Car Accidents

Horrible accidents take the lives of Colorado residents all too often. As we enter the winter season, Colorado drivers must be very careful whenever it is snowing, and whenever ice may be present on the road, to avoid getting involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident. For some, the temptation is there to drive aggressively or to speed when late for an appointment or for another reason, but it is always safer for ourselves and for anyone else on the road to obey all traffic laws and drive defensively with caution.

Recently, a two-car motor vehicle accident took the lives of two different people in Colorado Springs. The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 24 at approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17. The incident caused the closure of the roadway until approximately 10:20 p.m.

According to police, a gray car was headed eastbound on Highway 24 when it suddenly crossed over the center median into opposing traffic. After crossing into the westbound lanes, the vehicle struck an oncoming maroon car. The gray car’s driver, a 27-year-old woman, was found dead at the accident scene. The driver of the car that was struck was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition. A third person, who was a passenger in that car, succumbed to injuries and died at the hospital.

According to police, the investigation into this motor vehicle accident continues. Depending on the gathered evidence, family members of those who were killed may elect to pursue wrongful death claims against the person deemed responsible, based upon evidence that a fatal personal injury was caused by their negligence. The preliminary evidence suggests that the injured driver of the maroon car will have the ability to pursue a personal injury claim and family members of the passenger who died we will be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Victims of accidents in Colorado can seek financial relief to cover medical costs, rehabilitation services, end of life expenses and other monetary damages recognized by our laws.
