2 dead following single-car accident in Colorado

Patricia M. Jarzobski

Two young men are dead following a serious crash on Nov. 23, according to local law enforcement. A 20-year-old and 18-year-old lost their lives in a single-car accident in Weld County, Colorado. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash as of this writing.

According to preliminary reports, the 20-year-old driver was driving his vehicle east on a county road when he apparently moved into the westbound lane of traffic. His vehicle struck a pickup truck heading the other direction. The truck left the road on the right-hand side, but thankfully the driver was uninjured.

The car came to rest some ways away, and emergency medical personnel arriving on the scene of the accident declared both individuals in the car dead on the scene. It is unknown at this time whether police believe speed or intoxication played a role in the crash. However, it is known that inclement weather conditions were present on the road -- snow and ice were prevalent across the county, prompting law enforcement to urge caution from Colorado drivers.

While the inclement weather may indeed have played a role in the car accident, Colorado residents are well aware that dangerous weather conditions call for increased care while driving. If the police investigation determines the driver was not exercising enough caution concurrent to the road conditions, he may be considered posthumously responsible for the accident. If this is the case, the family of the 18-year-old passenger may wish to file a wrongful death suit against the estate of the deceased driver.
