Pedestrian killed in Colorado during motor vehicle accident

On Behalf of | Oct 15, 2013 | Car Accidents

The father of a teenager, who committed suicide earlier this year, created a walk for change campaign. He made the decision to travel across the country, on foot, to educate residents in Colorado and the rest of America about the effects of bullying. Tragically, the father was killed in a motor vehicle accident after being hit by a truck while he was on his journey.

The man was in the midst of walking across the country to enlighten others about the negative outcomes of bullying. The man did not want his son’s death to be in vain after his son killed himself as a result of being bullied continuously by fellow classmates. The man, however, never made it to his next destination. The accident reportedly occurred as he was walking along a main road on the shoulder.

The 49-year-old driver of a semi-truck allegedly dozed off behind the wheel and collided into the man. The man passed away at the scene of the crash and authorities issued the truck driver a citation for careless driving. Many people who were following the campaign offered their condolences.

A motor vehicle accident that kills a pedestrian can leave the victim’s family struggling to come to terms with what happened, grieving the loss and making funeral arrangements for their loved one. Depending on what the evidence shows, the family of the pedestrian may have the right to initiate legal action and pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver. In regards to the claim, the civil court system in Colorado typically brings a resolution to these types of issues depending upon evidence demonstrating that the death was caused by the negligence of the other party.
