In a bizarre and sad twist of events, a tow truck driver was involved in a crash while cleaning up a previous crash. The car accident took place when a driver of a pick-up truck crashed into a Colorado police officer’s vehicle, then collided with the tow truck driver. Tragically, the tow truck driver died and the officer was injured.
Authorities and rescue crews responded to the scene of an accident that occurred on the highway. The accident reportedly occurred around 1 p.m. while a tow truck driver and officer were still at the scene of a previous crash. The driver of a Ford pick-up slammed right into the back of the officer’s vehicle, causing it to go off the road. The truck then slammed into the tow truck driver, trapping him underneath.
A witness has stated that he assisted the tow truck driver in getting out from underneath the truck. Sadly, the driver of the tow truck died from his injuries. The officer sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. No citations or arrests have yet been reported.
A car accident that turns fatal can be devastating for surviving family members. The injured officer may experience pain and suffering and decide to file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver of the pick-up to recover financial compensation as a result of his injuries. The family retains the right to pursue a wrongful death claim on behalf of the deceased. These third-party civil claims would be separate from any workers’ compensation benefits the tow truck driver’s family and the Colorado police officer may be able to file with their employers.
