Many pedestrians know that walking the roadways can be a dangerous obstacle. As Colorado pedestrians are walking, crossing the street or jogging, they must protect themselves from drivers who are drunk, reckless or even drag racing. At times, these kinds of drivers may lose control of their vehicle. In this case, a 15-year-old boy’s life has been cut short due to a fatal accident involving an alleged drag racer.
Police indicate that the accident took place on a recent Saturday shortly before 10 p.m. Reportedly, a car that had been drag racing crashed into the teenager as he was jogging. Witnesses in the area told authorities that they observed two vehicles driving at high rates of speed around the same time as the fatal accident. It is also alleged that the driver may have failed to stop at a red light. Moreover, the accident was said to be a hit-and-run.
Unfortunately, the victim died at the hospital the next day as a result. The family is understandably shocked and upset. According to the teen’s father, the boy had a promising future and had plans of becoming a Navy Seal. He was also an MMA cadet at the Marine Military Academy.
When a teen loses their life in a fatal accident, it has heartbreaking consequence — not only for the victim, but for the family and loved ones as well. The surviving family retains the right to file a wrongful death suit against the party deemed responsible for the fatality. In regard to this fatal accident, the civil court system in Colorado commonly adjudicates these types of claims based upon proof that negligence of caused the accident and death that resulted.
