Colorado robbery followed by car accident, motorcyclist injured

On Behalf of | Jul 30, 2013 | Motorcycle Accidents

Most drivers would like to know that they are guaranteed to arrive home safe and sound. However, many Colorado drivers would agree that a car accident is a common occurrence so there is no complete guarantee of safety. One of the last accidents someone would expect to get into is one involving police chasing a robbery suspect. A motorcyclist was recently injured after just such an accident involving a robbery suspect.

The accident occurred when a robbery suspect was fleeing from police after shooting off a firearm inside a pawn shop. A Toyota truck was waiting at a red light when the approaching robbery suspect smashed into his vehicle. The impact caused the Toyota to collide with a motorcycle, causing injury to the motorcyclist.

Although the exact details of the injuries sustained have not been released, the motorcyclist was transported to the hospital and is listed in stable condition. The robbery suspect sustained minor injuries and was released the same day. Upon release from the hospital, he was charged with robbery and attempted murder.

A car accident that results in injury is typically burdensome — both for the victims and their families who depend on them. Economically speaking, the motorcyclist may not be able to work and could sustain lost wages from employment, as well as incur high medical expenses. He may also experience pain and suffering as a result of his injuries. In regards to this incident, the motorcyclist has the right to pursue civil litigation against the robbery suspect for personal injury. The civil court system in Colorado typically resolves these types of lawsuits and awards monetary damages to the victim.
