A motorcycle accident is often a tragic occurrence. With warmer weather comes the greater likelihood of a motorcycle accident as more riders are on the roads. A recent Colorado accident proved just how tragic when an off duty police officer was killed while riding his motorcycle.
From initial reports, it appears a car failed to yield to the motorcycle, and the officer hit the car on the passenger side with his motorcycle. It was noted the driver of the car was intoxicated. He was arrested after being given a breath test, and further test results are still pending. The officer was said to have been wearing a helmet, but it was knocked off by the impact.
Police officers often consider themselves to be brothers so no doubt this is affecting the lives of not only his family, but his work family as well. It was reported that he was survived by his father as well as a wife and children. They could benefit from looking into their right to file a civil suit as charges are still pending from the accident. Not only are they facing emotional devastation, but they could also be facing a huge financial strain with the loss of an income.
Any Colorado resident that has been involved in a motorcycle accident could find it beneficial to look into their rights under the state law. Taking a proactive approach as a victim or the family of a victim family can often prove to be a wise decision. Medical bills can accumulate quickly and lost wages can certainly hurt a family’s financial stability. Having a strong understanding of the laws can help in protecting a person’s financial future.
