A car accident can often result in serious injury. A recent Colorado accident involving a potentially intoxicated driver shows just how serious. While there is always a certain amount of risk involved with operating a vehicle, the chances of being involved in a car accident increase when a driver has been drinking.
Four cars were involved in the crash. One of the drivers, in a white truck, apparently did not slow down or stop at a light where the other vehicles were stopped. There were three people taken to local hospitals, including the driver of the truck. While one injury reportedly appeared life-threatening at the time of the crash, the exact condition of all involved was not immediately known.
The road remained closed for approximately four hours after the accident. The driver could be facing a number of charges, all of which are still pending. Apart from any criminal charges, the driver could also face a civil lawsuit from the victims or their families. Should the man be found to have been drinking, negligence would likely be the focal point of any civil claims.
Any Colorado resident that has been involved in a car accident and feels they were a victim of negligence might be best served by gaining an understanding of the applicable laws and procedures. A victim has the right to file a suit seeking reimbursement for medical bills, lost wages, as well as pain and suffering and any long term care that may be necessary. Having a working knowledge of the law can help determine the best way in which to proceed.
