New hope for Colorado brain injury patients

On Behalf of | Apr 5, 2013 | Brain Injuries

When an individual suffers a serious brain injury, life changes in a number of ways. Depending on the extent of the damage, the brain injury patient may experience loss of function in a range of areas of their life. The injury can take a toll on a Colorado family, as well, due to the need to restructure the family unit to accommodate the patient’s unique needs.

New application of an ages-old treatment may provide relief to some brain injury patients. Doctors at the George E. Whalen Veterans Health Administration have been treating patients with traumatic brain injury with acupuncture sessions. Use of the ancient eastern medical treatment has been found to provide relief for a range of symptoms, including irritability, sleep issues, fatigue, headaches and lack of concentration.

Patients who have undergone acupuncture sessions report a lessening of these and other symptoms. The treatment is completed on an outpatient basis, and patients can be trained to make use of the treatment points at home. As a result, many experience improved relaxation, decreased headaches and a better ability to cope with the chronic pain that typically accompanies these debilitating injuries.

This is just one example of the innovative ways that medical professionals are approaching the treatment of brain injuries. There are a range of treatments available, but the cost of medical intervention can be high. As a result, when a Colorado resident is subjected to a brain injury due to the negligence of another, it is imperative that they pursue their legal right to recover damages.
