When a serious car crash occurs, the process of investigation begins as soon as emergency responders arrive. Colorado police begin by assessing the scene, and noting the location and orientation of the vehicles involved. Damage to the vehicles and nearby structures is also noted, as is the presence of any skid marks. The authorities use this information, combined with eyewitness testimony and other tools, to determine how a car accident took place and which party was at fault in the matter.
Such is the case in a recent Colorado Springs crash involving two vehicles and leaving six individuals with an array of injuries. The head-on collision took place in the lunchtime rush hour of a recent Friday afternoon at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Southgate Road. The vehicles were a black sedan and white minivan, although the make and model of the vehicles were not reported.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they were told that there were individuals trapped within one of the vehicles. As a result of the crash, six people were rushed to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment. Among the injured were a mother and child. There is no update on the current condition of those injured.
As the investigation into this car accident moves forward, Colorado police will likely make use of toxicology screening to determine whether impairment was a factor in the crash. Should they determine which party was at fault for the accident, criminal charges or traffic citations could result. As for those injured in the accident, the results of the police investigation could help them decide whether to pursue personal injury action against the responsible party.
