Car accident in Colorado Springs may have been alcohol related

On Behalf of | Apr 29, 2013 | Car Accidents

The Colorado Springs Police Department now suspects that a driver involved in an accident recently may have been intoxicated at the time. The four car accident happened near Chelton Road on Platte Avenue in the Springs. Several people were injured as a result of the wreck.

Investigators with the Colorado Springs Police Department say the accident was caused by a pickup truck headed west of Platte Avenue. The traffic on Platte Avenue was at a standstill due to a red light. As the pickup truck approached the intersection, the driver failed to stop and plowed into vehicles stopped for the red light.

Three people, including the driver of the pickup truck, were injured and had to be taken to an area hospital. The current conditions of those people are not known. However, it is known that one of the three people suffered what have been described as life-threatening injuries.

It is not yet known whether the suspicions of the police that the driver of the pickup truck was drunk at the time of the car accident are correct. As far as is now known, the driver has not yet been charged with driving under the influence. If it turns out that police have concrete evidence that the driver was impaired, the critically injured victim may be able to use that evidence in a personal injury claim as proof of the driver’s negligence. If successful, the victim may be awarded the costs and damages that are accruing rapidly the longer the victim remains in the hospital and the longer it takes that victim to recover.
