Hit-and-run an issue in fatal accident in Denver, Colorado

On Behalf of | Oct 2, 2012 | Wrongful Death

A recent car accident has sent shock waves throughout Denver and the surrounding areas. Colorado residents have come to expect a certain volume of car accidents as more and more drivers share the roads. Weather complications, vehicle malfunctions and poor road conditions can all factor into the number of automobile accidents that take place every year. Some accidents, however, are harder to come to terms with. One example is a recent hit-and-run fatal accident that took the life of a 32-year-old pedestrian.

Early reports indicate that the woman was walking across S. Broadway Avenue around 1 a.m. on a recent Sunday when she was struck by a vehicle. Witnesses describe that vehicle as a four-door sedan, possibly gray or beige in color. It likely has a missing front right turn signal, as well as significant damage to the front passenger area of the car.

The driver reportedly fled the scene without stopping to render aid or wait for emergency responders to arrive. The victim was rushed to a local hospital, there she was pronounced dead. The woman was with her boyfriend at the time of the impact, and therefore was likely not alone as she died.

Police are asking for help in identifying the vehicle and driver responsible for this fatal accident. If and when they are able to determine the identity of the responsible party, criminal charges are likely to follow. In addition, the family of the woman killed in the incident will also retain the right to move forward with a civil suit for wrongful death once the driver is located. While no Colorado criminal or civil trial can undo the pain that this family is going through, a successful civil trial can certainly help them to feel that a measure of justice has been handed down in the matter.
