The shock of death is something that is hard to handle. When the deaths result from an accident caused by the negligence of another, the anguish is magnified. On a recent Monday morning two women walked five children to school in Colorado Springs. As they were heading home, with one woman pushing her 14-month-old baby in a stroller, they were struck by a vehicle. The fatal car accident has made headlines across Colorado.
The two women were reportedly friends. One was the mother of children who attend a local elementary school, while the other has grandchildren who go to the school.
Witnesses to the crash scene described hearing screaming and the sound of debris falling. News reports indicate that both women were taken by ambulance to the hospital where they were pronounced dead. The toddler survived the crash and was rushed into intensive care and at last word was reported in good condition.
Authorities say they have arrested a woman in connection with the deadly accident. She is currently free but is facing charges of careless driving resulting in death and pedestrians right of way in crosswalk.
Regardless of how those criminal charges play out, the families of the victims have the right to pursue civil suits against the driver. A successful wrongful death suit could assist families with covering expenses resulting from this crash, including the cost of each woman’s final expenses. In addition, for the family of the surviving infant, damages from a civil suit could help all of the members adjust to the reality that they now are without a mother.
