Fatal Colorado motorcycle accident results in charges

On Behalf of | Sep 27, 2012 | Motorcycle Accidents

When a collision occurs between a motorcycle and an enclosed vehicle, there can be little doubt which party will sustain the gravest level of injury. A recent motorcycle accident in Colorado Springs exemplifies the disadvantage that motorcycle riders have when such an incident occurs. This event could also serve to remind drivers to always keep an eye out for motorcycles whenever driving on Colorado roadways.

Police reports indicate that the crash took place at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Cheyenne Road. It appears that the motorcycle driver was heading westbound on Lake Avenue when a sedan attempted to make a left turn from Lake onto Cheyenne Road right into the path of the motorcycle. The sedan driver has since been charged with careless driving resulting in death and another charge related to the turn.

The force of the collision resulted in the driver of the motorcycle being thrown from his bike. He died at the scene of the crash, and police have not yet released his identity. In addition, one of the passengers in the Cavalier had to be extricated from the vehicle. Two occupants from that car were taken to the hospital for treatment. As this post is written there is no word about their conditions.

With the filing of charges, the woman driver in this accident is now faced with having to appear in criminal court to answer to the accusations. That’s scheduled to happen Nov. 7. She may also, however, be faced with having to respond to civil claims. The family of the motorcyclist may have cause to file a wrongful death suit in the matter. Even the passengers from her car may have reason to seek compensation for the personal injuries they are now suffering.
