Denver motorcycle crash injures 2

On Behalf of | Jun 5, 2012 | Motorcycle Accidents

Two people were seriously injured in a crash which occurred at 10 a.m. on June 3. The single vehicle motorcycle accident happened on Interstate 70 in the Denver Metro Area. The motorcycle, which was carrying a second person along with the driver, was traveling westbound on the freeway. Both the driver and the other rider were transported to the hospital from the scene of the accident.

The motorcycle reportedly struck a concrete construction barrier, according to initial statements from authorities. The incident caused the roadway to be closed down for several hours, which caused significant traffic and congestion on the freeway. However, the roadway was eventually reopened around noon.

This particular part of the freeway is currently under construction due to a bridge replacement project. The project has caused the crews to redirect traffic for several lane shifts. Many drivers have found the lane shifts and the 55 mph speed limit hazardous. These factors have caused drivers to brake suddenly, which increases the chances of a collision or accident. Last month, this stretch of highway was the scene of a five-vehicle accident.

Despite the recent accidents and challenges posed to motorists, drivers will be glad to hear that the temporary lane detour will soon be removed. The $8 million project that has been in process since last July is set to be completed by the end of June. As of now, there have been no official reports confirming that the detour had contributed to the cause of the motorcycle accident on the freeway in the Denver Metro Area.

A spokeswoman from the Colorado Department of Transportation reports that, “The curves are designed for 55 mph.” This could indicate that the liability lay with the driver rather than a problem endemic to the construction site. Any victims injured at this site due to another driver’s negligence could seek recompense.
