Colorado car accident: car struck by a pickup towing scrap metal

On Behalf of | Jun 20, 2012 | Car Accidents

On the road, drivers encounter all sorts of vehicles, including cars, trucks, tractor-trailers, motorcycles and vehicles in tow. It is essential that drivers know how to accommodate other vehicles and the risks associated with driving near certain types of vehicles. When we take the road in Colorado, there is an inherent trust given that the other drivers on the road will be alert, cautious and responsible for the condition of their vehicles. That trust is often broken, however, when drivers fail to act responsibly and a car accident may be the result.

On Thursday, June 7, a car was struck by a truck towing a trailer full of scrap metal. The car — a Buick Rendezvous — had been in the process of turning into a driveway when the pickup — a Dodge Ram 1500 — crashed into the left rear portion of the car. The car was spun around and rolled onto its side. The truck ran off of the road and flipped, landing upside down. The trailer was disconnected from the truck at some point and came to a stop just off the roadway.

The precise cause of the collision was not disclosed. It is not clear what factors were in play that may have contributed to or caused the crash. The report did not indicate if a turn signal was used. As for the Dodge, no information has been released concerning whether the trailer full of scrap metal that was being towed was correctly attached with the contents secured properly or if some other reason may have played a part in the incident.

The truck driver and his passenger were treated by ambulance workers at the scene of the crash and sustained minor injuries. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries sustained in the crash; the nature and extent of which were not further described. Colorado investigators do not suspect drug or alcohol use as a factor in the car accident. At present, no charges have been filed against either party. It remains to be seen whether one or more civil suits for personal injury will be filed in the matter.
