Fatal Colorado accident kills 2, injures 1

On Behalf of | May 14, 2012 | Car Accidents

Though accidents happen every day on Colorado roadways, most of them are minor, allowing drivers and passengers alike to walk away from the scene. This wasn’t the case, however, in one Colorado car accident on U.S. 50 recently that resulted in the death of two Littleton residents as well as the hospitalization of one Durango man. At the time of a local news report, police were attempting to determine possible causes of the accident, such as distracted driving.

According to a Colorado State Patrol Technician, the accident occurred around 2:18 in the afternoon. A 58-year-old man was driving his 1999 Ford pickup westbound along with his 59-year-old wife. However, while traveling down the roadway, their vehicle crossed the center-line and into the eastbound lanes of traffic. It subsequently suffered a head-on collision with a Dodge pickup truck.

Tragically, emergency responders found both the husband and wife dead at scene. The 51-year-old driver of the Dodge pickup luckily survived the accident, although he had to be transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Due to the seriousness of the accident, he may well require significant medical attention and physical therapy to recover from the tragedy.

In this case, all individuals involved in the car accident were reportedly wearing seatbelts. However, it was not clear why the vehicle driven by the husband and wife crossed into opposing traffic. Hopefully, though, the police will be able to determine the cause, which may help not only with assessing liability but also with providing the family of the deceased and the injured driver with some closure. Nonetheless, the 51-year-old injured driver does not appear to be at fault in this claim, and may be able to pursue a claim for personal injury against the estate of the husband and wife, should he wish to do so.
