Injuries incurred in truck accidents prompt lawsuits

Driving a semitruck is not easy. It takes more time to gain speed and come to a complete stop than a much smaller vehicle. Navigating around curves and corners, traffic congestion and parking lots often takes nerves of steel. Drivers of these unwieldy transporters can easily find themselves as the cause of truck accidents. One of Colorado's most recent semitruck accidents resulted in injuries for two people.

Truck accidents happen anytime, anywhere

All drivers must beware when they are on the road. Distractions inside the car -- such as cell phones, children or radios -- can draw needed attention from all that is going on around them. Car and truck accidents can and do happen when drivers are not fully aware of their surroundings. One of Colorado's most recent truck accidents happened on a state highway, causing damage to several vehicles and injury to three people.

Lawsuits an option following truck accidents

Many people often experience anxiety when driving on the road in the vicinity of semi trucks. News reports frequently feature stories of truck accidents that happen because of the lack of sleep of drivers who had delivery deadlines or because they may not see a smaller car on the road beside them. One of the more recent truck accidents on I-25 took the life of a Colorado State Trooper.

Truck accidents can lead to lawsuits

Personal injury lawsuits are frequently filed after people have been seriously injured or have died because of the negligence of another person. The injuries can come from a variety of sources, including car and truck accidents. One of a number of truck accidents on a Colorado interstate injured several people in a recent afternoon incident.

Truck accidents resulting in death could spawn lawsuits

The amount of any money judgment awarded in a wrongful death lawsuit filed after a fatal Colorado traffic accident typically depends on the specifics of the accident and the extent of the damages documented. Truck accidents are often fatal, simply because of the greater mass of the vehicle when compared to others on the roads. Drivers believed responsible for fatal truck accidents, as well as their employers, find themselves defending against civil claims for both economic and non-economic losses.

Fatalities are the sad results of some truck accidents

Truck accidents that result in fatalities happen much too often. Sometimes they are the fault of the truck drivers, sometimes they result from weather conditions, and sometimes they are caused by the vehicles with which the trucks collided. The size and weight of large trucks mean the damage in truck accidents can be horrific. A recent truck accident in Colorado Springs resulted in a fatality.

Truck accidents can cause catastrophic damage

Truck accidents with such large vehicles as 18-wheeled semis can be harrowing experiences. Those types of truck accidents can result in major damage to other vehicles and to people. Troopers with the Colorado State Patrol reported a recent accident involving one of those semis and a pickup truck.

Federal safety violations and the issue of negligence

In our last post, we mentioned that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is preparing to establish a new regulation which will require manufacturers of large trucks to include electronic stability control system for all new vehicles manufactured after August 2017. The regulation is the latest addition to the corpus of federal regulations addressing the issue of trucking safety.

Electronic stability control to be required on new trucks

Roadway accidents can be classified into a number of different ways. Regardless of the type of roadway accident you are talking about, though, more needs to be done to reduce such accidents. Roughly 300 drivers die and 3,000 are injured every year due to rollover crashes, which involve, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In 2012, over half of fatal accidents were due to rollover crashes.

Holding truck drivers and trucking companies liable for negligence

Trucking safety is an important issue when it comes to improving the rate of traffic fatalities. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, a total of 3,921 individuals were killed in 2012 in accidents involving large trucks, and another 104,000 were injured. Clearly, work needs to be done in this area.
