Colorado car accident injures 5, including an infant

Patricia M. Jarzobski

Automotive travel has become a fully integrated part of the American experience. Virtually everyone relies on transport by car or truck, and even in large metropolitan areas many people get back and forth on buses. Road travel has become such a part of daily life that it can be easy to forget how dangerous it can be to drive or ride in a vehicle. One recent Colorado car accident serves as a reminder of the importance of remaining alert and aware at all times while on the road.

The crash took place just after noon on a recent Sunday. Police believe that a Volkswagen Jetta was heading westbound on Jones Road near Peyton as an eastbound Mazda approached. The Jetta crossed into the path of the Mazda, and the two vehicles collided.

As a result of the force of the impact, the driver and a passenger in the Mazda suffered serious injuries. The driver and a passenger in the Volkswagen were also seriously injured. An infant in the Volkswagen sustained a broken arm, even though the child was properly restrained in a safety seat at the time of the crash.

Police are still working to determine the cause of the collision. They have issued a statement asserting that excessive speed is believed to have played a part in the incident. Drug and alcohol is not being considered as a causal factor.

As the investigation continues, Colorado criminal charges could result if and when police determine which party was at fault. All of the injured parties are still in the early stages of recovering from a range of broken bones and other injuries sustained in the car accident, and there is no word on their prognosis for recovery, or whether surgical intervention was necessary to treat their injuries. The victims may decide to move forward with personal injury lawsuits, once fault has been determined in the matter.
